The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz | Book Review

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz | Book Review
When Cooper McQueen wakes up from a night with a beautiful stranger, it's to discover he's been robbed. The only item stolen—a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. The thief, a mysterious woman named Paris, claims the bottle is rightfully hers. After all, the label itself says it's property of the Maddox family who owned and operated Red Thread Bourbon distillery since the last days of the Civil War until the company went out of business for reasons no one knows… No one except Paris.

In the small hours of a Louisville morning, Paris unspools the lurid tale of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery that became an empire. But the family tree is rooted in tainted soil and has borne rotten fruit. Theirs is a legacy of wealth and power, but also of lies, secrets and sins of omission. The Maddoxes have bourbon in their blood—and blood in their bourbon. Why Paris wants the bottle of Red Thread remains a secret until the truth of her identity is at last revealed, and the century-old vengeance Tamara vowed against her family can finally be completed.

I’m a huge fan of Tiffany Reisz. I have read all of her books and love them. The Bourbon Thief is her next book to be released and I just finished it.
I found The Bourbon Thief to be a great read for fans of V.C. Andrews. The family has major problems with twists and turns you don’t see coming.
I learned a lot of bourbon in this book. I love learning news things, so that bumped the book up higher for me in my rating. It wasn’t just a story about bourbon, family, love and mysteries. You actually learn about the process of bourbon becoming bourbon, and it is fascinating.
While Tiffany said this book is darker than her previous book, I don’t think that there is anything in the book that would indicate a warning on content or a trigger factor. What I thought she meant by darker was in regards to how dark her “Original Sinners” series books are, but I can see where she is coming from. It definitely has a darker theme, but it is revealed in layers, like an onion. It isn’t until the very end, when the events and secrets are revealed and come together, what a mess the whole situation truly is.
I don’t know what it was about this book, but I personally didn’t enjoy it as much as her others. It is a huge departure from her other work, but that wasn’t it. I read all genres of books, so I didn’t care if it had sex, kinky sex or no sex in it. It was a little slow, and like a previous reviewer said, it was depressing.
Tiffany did a lot of work for this book and it definitely shows. I can see why she wasn’t on social media. All of the research that had to be done is inspiring. Like I said early, I learned a lot about bourbon.
It really bothers me that I have to give this book 3.5 stars because I am such a huge fan of Tiffany, but I have to be honest to readers and tell them that The Bourbon Thief just wasn’t a book that squeezed my heart or blew me away.
To any Tiffany Reisz fan, I know you will like it. I know you will read it because it is Tiffany. Hell, that’s why I read it. Go in with an open mind and expect it to be more of a women’s fiction book with minor elements of romance. Expect to learn a legacy of a family and just how twisted it can be.

She has five piercings, one tattoo, and has been arrested twice.
When not under arrest, Tiffany enjoys Latin Dance, Latin Men, and Latin Verbs. She dropped out of a conservative southern seminary in order to pursue her dream of becoming a smut peddler. Johnny Depp’s aunt was her fourth grade teacher. Her first full-length novel THE SIREN was inspired by a desire to tie up actor Jason Isaacs (on paper). She hopes someday life will imitate art (in bed).
If she couldn’t write, she would die.

Mr Perfect by JA Huss Book Review

Mr Perfect by JA Huss Book Review
Wanting the perfect man doesn’t make me crazy. I just know what I like.
A powerful billionaire in a suit wasn’t even my first choice. Mcallister Stonewall was never on my radar, I didn’t even know he existed.
But I do now.
His hands are all over me at work. The heat of his chest pressing against my bare back as he bends me over the desk is the only thing on my mind.
He is my most forbidden desires unleashed. He is my new secret obsession. He is my Mr. Perfect.
Until the moment I realize… There’s no such thing as perfect.
Goodreads

I love books that have banter back and forth between main characters. It makes you break out in a huge grin that you then try to hide. This happened to me while reading this book while waiting at the pharmacy at Walgreens. I was a grinning idiot.
The heroine lives in the land of fantasy and denial, and Mr. Perfect brings that world to a crashing halt. Like Huss’ other books, the book has hot sexy times and another story arc covering the Mr. series that we haven’t figured out yet.
I loved the book, just like Huss’ previous books. You will not be disappointed.

Review:

If you have never read Jay’s books before, let me prepare you. She writes about sexy tattoo, sometimes alpha males that have a fantastic love story.
In leveled she mended two series and families together beautifully. I liked that there wasn’t drama in Leveled just for drama’s sake. You know what I mean? Yes, Lando had his secrets, but he was coming from a good place, especially after what he has been through.
Dom, that guy’s nickname says it all. He is alpha male cop through and through with a heart of gold. When he finally found the one, he fought harder than he ever has in his job.
Leveled is a pretty quick read about two men who find love in the most unexpected place.

Drop Dead Sexy Review:

I love Katie Ashley. I haven’t read a book she has written and ever been disappointed. Drop Dead Sexy is another one I really liked.

I love that Katie picked a career for a woman (town coroner) that is typically a man’s career. That right there was enough for me to be excited for this book.

Drop Dead Sexy has lots of humor in it. I found myself laughing out loud at the silly and outrageous things Olivia has to do or endure. One example is when she found out she had a latex allergy. I felt so sorry for Olivia having this allergy. Can you imagine how many men buy only latex condoms and don’t think about women who could have the allergy? I mean, when you go to the doctor they always ask you if you are allergic to latex. Lots of people are. But to find out while losing your virginity has to be the worst.

Next, Olivia has to endure yet another sucky incident: her Mother’s lingerie party. I mean, would you go to your Mother’s lingerie party? I’m really open about sex, and I knew my parents had it, and it was talked about openingly at my house, but I can’t say I would want to go to a lingerie party for my Mom.

Well, before she went to the party, she decided she was going to leave town and find herself a man. Her dry spell had lasted too long, and come hell or high water, she was getting laid. Enter sexy Catcher, a Georgia Bureau Investigator.

Well, they hit it off right away. They both had eyes for each other and it didn’t take but a minute for the introductions to begin. Enter sexy scenes. Then more sexy scenes. And more sexy scenes. So many sexy scenes I felt bad for Olivia’s hooha, but cheered for her too.

After doing the walk of shame the next morning, Olivia thought that it would be the last she would see of Catcher, only to find him on a case that she was working on too. Seriously, how had these two never met before?

This is the part of the book that has lots of voodoo, suspense, mystery and some laughs pulled in. It wasn’t a hard core Lisa Gardner detective book, but it had it’s own mystery to figure out with Olivia and Catcher at the helm.

Overall, I give this book a solid 4. I save those 5’s for books that blow my heart apart. I would definitely recommend everyone read this book. It has comedy, sex and mystery all wrapped up in it. I think most people would really like it if you’re into the comedy, sex and mystery aspects. I love reading Katie Ashley books, and I can say I recommend all of them.

Review:

I loved HardBall so much. I’m usually pretty hard on Christine’s books. I also like them, but I feel this is her best book yet. It starts with Vivian who is an elementary school librarian who takes her under privileged children to the LA Dodger’s stadium for a field trip. Vivian has her own agenda, other than taking her children to the stadium. She wants to get a baseball signed with every member of the Dodger’s team for her dad’s birthday present. Vivian and her Dad are hardcore Dodger’s fans.

While Vivian meets the players there, they all seem very nice and are happy to do a meet and greet with the children. Vivian has three players left to get her ball signed, one being Dash Wallace. She let’s her children go first, and then she went to have her ball signed by Dash, and he asked her if she was a teacher, and she tells him she is a librarian. He looks at the ball and asks her if she has the whole roster on the ball? She tells him it is for her Dad. Dash then almost accuses her of arranging the field trip just so she can get the ball signed. Well, that really ticks her off. Vivian proceeds to snark at him and tells him, “Thank you. If it was too much trouble to sign without an insult, you shouldn’t have bothered. My dad probably wouldn’t noticed it was missing. insert clapping.

From here the books really gets started, and this was all from the very first chapter.

What I really love of about Christine is that she sets the scene in the town she lives in, which is LA. With this book, it is no exception. She draws an image in your head the difference between the low-income neighborhoods to the rich Beverly Hills area. Vivian works in a low-income school that has a lot of children who do not speak english, mostly spanish, but then drives back to her home, which is in Beverly Hills where she lives with her dad. The ultra rich of baseball star Dash Wallace lives in the Hills.

Another thing that I love about Christine’s books is that I’m always learning something new. From the first books I read in her Song’s of Submission series, to her mafia series, her story about a paparazzi photographer and now in her baseball themed love story.

My husband is a huge baseball fan, and I grew up in a small town in Indiana, just an hour outside Chicago. Baseball was in my home all the time. My brother even played ball in high school as a pitcher, only to have his rotator cuff torn and had to have surgery. There went any of his prospects of a scholarship. Colleges don’t usually want kids who have already been injured.

I learned that ball players play something like 162 games a year. Let’s not forget they have spring training. That is a lot of time away from home and their family, if they have one. I also learned that playing baseball doesn’t last that long. In my opinion players in MLB make ridiculous money, more than any sport, and I just don’t understand why. Moving on.

I love that Christine made this librarian have a spine. Dash thought she was going to be easy to woo, like most women he has already been with. What he doesn’t realize is that Vivian wasn’t interested in having her heart crushed again. Yes, dating a rich and handsome man would be great, but he wants to put a time limit on it, so she wants to protect her heart. I don’t know that I could have been that strong.

As the story progresses, their love story begins and moves along at a great pace. I never felt bored. I never wanted to put the book down and I found that it sucked me in right away. The only negative isn’t necessarily about the book, but Christine sometimes has a way to make books wordy. I feel that if I’m reading a great american novel, I can understand all the wordy words, but Christine’s book are romance novels that just don’t need it. I love that she uses books as a connection, and that’s not what I’m referring to, it’s more about the analogies. A few are okay, but sometimes there are more than I feel are not needed.

From the little I just told you about the book, I can honestly say that I would recommend HardBall to my friends. It is my favorite CD Reiss book that she has written. I just can’t wait to get my hands on my own physical copy and get it signed. That’s how much I loved it.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.
Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.
She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.
If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

An Unforgivable Love Story Review:

I don’t know what to say about this book. Stay with me during my rambles.
First, I met Barbara at Penned Con right before she was to release Love Nouveau. I was giving her unsolicited advice, and she showed me the amazing cover and then I read the blurb. I was honestly stunned that this was her first book. I read it and it was amazing. She made a name for herself in the tough book industry.
Moving on to An Unforgivable Love Story, Berry departs from the basic formula. She wrote the book in 4 sections. Each section is about a different character.
During the first section, I had a good idea where the book was going, and I even sent a tweet to Barbara that I was going to live tweet her as I read the book. The first section leaves you with a cliffhanger.
During section 2, you start all over again, just to leave you with a cliffhanger like section 1 did. That’s okay because when you start section 3, you have all the important information and you feel like you can get a handle on what’s happening.
As you read through section 3, you are going back-and-forth with how you are feeling about the whole situation. Where do you stand on what is happening. Do you agree with the characters decisions or not.
Then when you finish up section three, you feel like things are settled, but then you realize there is section 4. Now what is going to happen? You read it, and it is such a plot twist that I don’t even know how I feel about it. I don’t even think I understand it. Maybe Berry wrote it so you don’t get it and you make your own opinion on what happens. I don’t know. I need to tweet her. The end definitely left me scratching my head.

Blurb

In The Confessions of Marcus Stearns, notorious Nora Sutherlin is famous for her delicious works of erotica, each one more popular with readers than the last. But her latest manuscript is different—more serious, more personal—and she's sure it'll be her breakout book…if it ever sees the light of day. Zachary Easton holds Nora's fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: he wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards—in six weeks—or it's no deal. Nora's grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing. And a dangerous former lover has her wondering which is more torturous—staying away from him…or returning to his bed? Nora thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in a world where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

The Confessions of Marcus Stearns

There is not a book that Tiffany Reisz writes that I won’t read. She is my Queen of writing. Of course I consumed the book. All the things like housework and people were ignored. I mean, I just found out that Soren has/had a confessor. The shit that man must know. I just had to find out!

Review:

The Confessions is an amazing book. I loved getting a look around in Soren’s mind, plus we also get Elanor and Tiffany’s confessions. Talk about a prize at the end of The Original Sinners series.

It wasn’t necessary what Soren has to say, but the advice he gives Soren. It was great advice, advice I would expect a Jesuit Priest would give anyone.

Elanor even had some confessions of her own. There were a couple of shockers that you don’t see coming, so you will definitely have to read this short story to find out what secrets she is holding on to.

Now, on to the tea. The best part that will give you are palpitations is the end, when Tiffany gives you facts that you didn’t know about the series. Yes, Tiffany has her own confessions, but the list at the end is fabulous. (sung in my most fabulous aka Nene Leakes voice)

I got permission from the Queen herself to spill some of these fun facts about the series. (Rubbing my hands together) Are you ready to get started? All of the following are direct quotes from the book or pieces are direct quotes.

Fun Facts about the series:

  1. All the names of the principle characters in The Siren are based on the four cardinal directions:
    • Nora Sutherlin- North South
    • Wesly- West
    • Zach Easton-  East
    • Soren- South
  2. Soren’s middle name is Lennox, which is an author tribute to English soul singer Annie Lennox who co-wrote the song, “Missionary Man” from which the author of the Original Sinners series (Tiffany Resiz) took the phrase “Original Sinner.” Lennox is also a district in Scotland.
  3. This one is a huge fact for me: Soren is a polyglot meaning he speaks and reads multiple languages. These include English, Danish, Swedish, French, Spanish, Arabic, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, German, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, and the biblical languages of Koine Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin. None other than Professor Henry Jones, i.e. Indiana Jones, inspired Soren’s polyglotism. That is so cool. Indiana Jones.  Now I’m wondering if Soren watched Indiana Jones to say, “Hey, I want to know all those languages,” or if it was only inspired by Tiffany watching Indiana Jones. Shaming fact, I’ve never watched Indiana Jones, BUT, I have ridden the ride at Disneyland.
  4. Soren’s motorcycle is a black 1992 Ducati 907 I.E. It is the only year the 907 I.E. came in black.
  5. Remember that Soren’s father was a baron. He did not keep the title because he went into the priest hood. However, the family estate is called Edenfell and is located in the north of England along the Scottish border. Due to Kingsley’s largesse, Edenfell is now the property of Fionn Eastion.
  6. There are references throughout the series that reference The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis.
  7. Songs in the series are as follows.
    1. Sting’s, “When We Dance” is the song Soren and Elanor waltz to in The Saint. The Police song Nora dances to with Zach at the end of The Queen is, “Every Little The She Does Is Magic.”
  8. Soren’s name is correctly spoken as Suurn (rhymes with burn.)
  9. Soren and Elanor’s parish is taken from a small farming community in Kentucky near where he author lived at the time.
  10. The original draft of The Siren was written in 2003! In the original draft, Nora picked Wesley over Soren. What you say? Soren told the author he didn’t approve. The author changed the ending, because the author knows what’s good for her.

Don’t fret or worry. There is still a lot of interesting trivia in the book to know. You still have to read Tiffany Reisz’s confession. Just wait for that!

As a HUGE sidenote, Tiffany let’s the reader note that there will be more short stories, or novellas about this cast of characters, but since the series never hit the Bestseller list, it is hard for a publisher to justify an author to keep writing more books. This saddens me so much because this series, the one I’m talking about right now, is my perfect 10. I have not read a better series in all my 35 years. Yes, the series is Taboo, can be a tough subject to read, but I believe Tiffany and her magic poetic pen wrote the best ever series about BDSM out there. The journey she had to go through to get the relationship correct and add the real element of BDSM is equally balanced. I don’t practice BDSM, but I want to think she wrote a love story that has a very accurate betrayal of their sexual world. I know their love story was unequivocally the best series I have ever read. Yes, it’s that fantastic.

She has five piercings, one tattoo, and has been arrested twice.
When not under arrest, Tiffany enjoys Latin Dance, Latin Men, and Latin Verbs. She dropped out of a conservative southern seminary in order to pursue her dream of becoming a smut peddler. Love, Chloe description

Chloe Madison. That’s me. A former NYU princess who fell from grace, right off my pampered Manhattan throne and onto the unforgiving steps of Nicole Brantley, socialite and queen bitch. Now, I walked her dog and mixed her smoothies. Tried to navigate my own problems while fixing all of hers.

I wanted what every New York girl did. A career, an apartment, and true love, preferably in a smoking hot package.

It turned out … I’d have to fight for all of it.

Review:

Going into Love, Chloe, I had no preconceived notions going into this book. I did not read the Cosmo column, so I really only had a general idea that a rich girl loses her money and has to get her life back on track.
From the moment I started reading it I was in. I’m not surprised because Alessandra always pulls me in. I kept thinking, where is this book going to take me? What kind of ride is it going to be?
From the start I loved Chloe’s friends. They are her rock, rich as all get out, but her true friends. Instead of giving up on her, they help her through this “tough” transition in life.
Enter Vic the ex. Well maybe ex. I found myself cheering for him, and even felt bad for him at times. His acts of love are what I want, being as I’m in the same position as Chloe, and I couldn’t help root for the guy. I have rooted for much worse in books, and they got the girl.
That brings us to Carter. Well isn’t he just something. That’s all I’ve got to say about that. He’s something alright.
Love, Chloe hit me in all the right spots. I was ticked-off at Chloe’s parents for her, I swooned when she swooned, I was confused when she was confused, and I was hot and bothered when she was hot and bothered. This may be one of Alessandra’s less steamier books, but when she steams in this one, oh buddy, it steams. You might even learn a trick or two.

Love Chloe by Alessandra Torre. Chloe Madison. That's me. Review:

Lisa Gardner’s latest book, Find Her, is a book that keeps your heart pounding and keeps your mind working the whole time you are furiously turning the pages. Find Her is a book that seems pulled straight from the horror of the news and brings you into the Monsters that you haven’t even imaged. It is also a book that has great safety for women so they can learn preventive measure to keep yourself away from a predator. As a women you will find yourself learning skills that you can use if you ever find yourself in the position of being kidnapped and held captive. I would even say, Find Her is a book women can read to save their life.

Goodreads

I’m not sure what it is with Alessandra because I swear I can’t find a common thread in her books that makes me know that she is the author of all of them. Each book is complete unique and has a different voice, something you expect from Oscar winner actors. Hell, something maybe only 1% of those who have an Oscar can do.

I’m going to tell you that of all the books books Torre has written, The Girl in 6E is my least favorite. I don’t know why. I just wasn’t feeling it and that’s okay. Thousands of other women where, and it won several awards, and it deserved to win.

I decided to give it another go. I’m at a different spot in my mind. Who knows? I didn’t go back and read the other two books, because you can read If You Dare by A.R. Torre as a standalone, but you will find the series much more satisfying if you read all 3 of them together. Being as I’m in the book world, I kept close tabs on Torre’s work and knew what they were all about, so I went ahead and read book 3, and I enjoyed myself.

I was caught off guard how long the book was. Reading on a Kindle, I have no concept how long a book is. I just kept looking at my % thinking, crap, I haven’t gotten very far.

As for the 4 stars I’m giving the book, it’s because I knew how it was going to end. I feel let down when I know how books are going to end and they actually end that way, especially with Torre’s books. I beam with pride that she can shock the hell out of me. That is a huge selling point of her books for me. I thought for sure there was going to be this amazing plot twist. I was waiting for it. Waiting. Waiting. Then nothing. Ugh. Taps mic. Hello? Alessandra. Minus one star. Others who read the book may feel like it is a huge plot twist, but I didn’t. I’ve become really good at reading foreshadowing and picking up on hints left by authors since I read so much, so maybe it’s me?

I know if you have like the previous two books, you’re going to love the final book, If You Dare. You still get lots of crazy Deanna moments. Lots of, “did she really just do that or think that moments?” And a couple of her friends play a little bigger roles in this last book than in prior books. All-in-all, you’re going to love it, If You Dare to read it, that is.
